The 44th Annual Presbyterian Evangelistic Fellowship Family Conference will be held July 9-14, 2012 at Miilligan College in Elizabethton, Tennessee. The conference theme is “The Year of the Evangelist”. The conference theme verse is Romans 1:16: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel,for it is the power of God to everyone who believes,”. Constantly amazed

I am constantly amazed

By the things that He has done,

The lilies of the valley.

Snowy peaks, and rising sun.

I am constantly amazed

By the love that He has shown,

The plan for our salvation,

The gift of His dear Son.

The grace that is sufficient

To save a wretch like me.

It may be important where your child goes to college.

It may be important the work your children do

But what is most important is to know Jesus and be with Him forever

Tell them that Jesus is only Savior.

GRACE FROM BEGINNING TO END

Our salvation is by God’s grace from beginning to end. By grace, He became a man to live a sinless life and die a sacrificial death. By grace, He rose from the dead for our justification. By grace, He brought the gospel message to us. By grace, He convicted us of our sin and Christ sufficiency as a Savior and Lord. By grace, He imparted repent ance and faith to our hearts. By grace, He quickened us who were dead in trespasses and sins. By grace, He sanctifies us. By grace, He will complete that work. By grace, He will glorify us with Christ. By grace, He will fellowship with us eternally in heaven. God’s astounding grace is one thing on which all Christians should agree and for which all should praise Him!

“AFRAID? OF WHAT?”

When living in an area where, and at a time when, kidnapping for ransom was not uncommon, what did one do? wealth is comparative, but to the Chinese bandit of that day, the average foreigner appeared wealthy.

Our Mission Board made it a policy never to pay ransom. That policy spread rapidly by word of mouth. As a result, none of our missionaries were never held for ransom.

Uncle Jack Vinson*however, was captured and killed by bandits in cold blood.

Uncle Jack was recovering from an appendectomy when t he village of Yangchiagih (a village in which a number of Christians lived) was pillaged by bandits. Uncle Jack insisted on going to check on the Christians. While he was there, the bandits returned. Uncle Jack was captured, and after being roped together with a long line of prisoners, was ordered to start walking. Because of his recent surgery, he was unable to keep up. A bandit threatened to shoot him if he did not hurry.

A young Chinese girl heard the threats and Uncle Jack’s reply: “If you shoot me, I shall go straight to heaven.” The soldier shot him.

When Uncle Ham (the Rev. E. H. Hamilton) heard the account of the shooting, he wrote the following poem which reflects, I think, the feelings of all those missionaries under whose influence we grew up.

*To the children of missionaries, most fellow missionaries were “aunt,” “uncle,” or “cousin.”

Afraid? Of What?

To pass from pain to perfect peace,
The strife and strain of life to cease?
